According to TechCrunch, Opera aims to run artificial intelligence models within the browser without sending them to the cloud, using an approach it calls WebAI. The feature, available as an optional early preview in Opera One, cites Gemma and Apple’s on-device model on Macs as examples.
The company’s roadmap also includes support for Opera GX and Neon; however, the report does not demonstrate a universally accepted cross-browser standard or a generally available product. Local processing may reduce data transfer, but it does not eliminate every privacy risk. Speed and resource consumption depend on device hardware.
